Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum credit I can claim on my Arizona tax return?

For singles, the maximum is $500. Married persons filing separately may also claim a credit of $500 each. Married persons filing jointly can claim a credit of $1,000. If your state income tax liability is less than the amount of your donation, the difference may be carried forward and used to offset state income taxes for up to five years.

Can my tax credit donation be less than $500?

Yes, we appreciate any donation, large or small.

How can I be sure that most of my tax credit donation will be used for tuition grants, not administration?

The Arizona State law requires that 90% of tuition tax credit donations received be used for tuition grants. SOTD Education Foundation awards over 90% of contributions received for tuition grants to the families whose income/financial situation demonstrates the most need.

May we designate a specific child to receive an award from our donation?

Recommendations are accepted, but our primary consideration is based on financial need.

How do I claim my donation on my taxes and which Arizona forms do I use?

Forms 301 and 323 are available from the Arizona Department of Revenue, phone (602) 542-4260, or they can be printed from the AZ Department of Revenue website after the first of the year following the donation year.

Can we claim our donation as a federal income tax deduction?

Yes, in addition to being an Arizona tax credit, you may be able to use your donation as a charitable tax deduction on your federal tax return. We are a 501(c)(3) federally tax exempt charitable organization. Please consult your tax adviser.
